Nonprofit Boards: Get Engaged!

Virtual Workshop

Friday, March 5, 2021 12-1pm

Want to give back and share your professional experience to make a difference?

Have you wondered about joining a nonprofit board?

We hope you’ll join us for an interactive and informative workshop to learn more about the roles and responsibilities of board members, things you should consider prior to joining a board and next steps for getting involved.

About Social Venture Partners Charlotte:

This workshop is being facilitated by Social Venture Partners Charlotte (SVP), a local nonprofit venture philanthropy organization that has invested over $1.5 Million and thousands of skills-based volunteer hours in innovative local nonprofits attacking social and economic inequality in Charlotte.

SVP Charlotte strengthens nonprofits through capacity building and financial investment.

Leading the workshop will be SVP’s Executive Director, Kristin Beck, and two SVP Partners, Scott Brennan and Cristy Travaglino, who bring their own experience as nonprofit board members.

Speaker Bios:

Kristin Winkle Beck joined Social Venture Partners Charlotte as the Executive Director in October 2019 as an enthusiastic coach, optimistic problem solver, and servant leader. With over two decades of corporate experience leading business units and strategic vendor relationships, she leverages her expertise to maximize community impact, collaborate with strategic partners, and optimize organizational effectiveness.  Kristin intentionally stepped out of corporate America when she left her position as Senior Vice President at Bank of America Merchant Services to take a sabbatical in 2018 to recharge and refocus her career. During her sabbatical, Kristin completed two coaching certifications and founded her own coaching and consulting firm, Pivot Point Professionals, LLC.  Kristin earned her bachelor's degree in Psychology and a certificate for Business Essentials in Nonprofit Leadership from Wake Forest University. Kristin is a podcast junkie, coffee addict, and networking enthusiast. Along with her husband Aaron, she enjoys cooking and hosting friends in their Charlotte home.

Scott Brennan is a Partner with Social Venture Partners, and is a retiree from Accenture.  His career included over 32 years of strategy, operations, finance, and technology consulting with Fortune 500 companies.  He is on the board of several nonprofits including SVP Charlotte and GenOne Charlotte.  He graduated with a degree in Finance from Arizona State University.  Scott has three grown children and has called Charlotte home for over 20 years.

Cristy Travaglino is a Partner with Social Venture Partners and serves as Board Treasurer.  She is also the Board Chair for Common Wealth Charlotte.  Prior to moving to Charlotte, she spent 10 years in New York City where she was Vice President at Goldman Sachs in their Credit Risk Management & Advisory department and served as Board Chair and Credit Committee member for a community development credit union called Neighborhood Trust FCU.  She also has professional experience as an operational efficiency consultant for Accenture.  Cristy has a B.S. in Computer Information Systems from Clemson University and an M.B.A. in Social Enterprise and Finance from Columbia Business School.  Cristy lives with her husband and two daughters in south Charlotte.
